According to a press release Wednesday, the Jim Thorpe Association has selected Sam Carter, junior safety on the TCU football team, as its Jim Thorpe Defensive Back of the Week for his performance in TCU’s 48-17 win against visiting SMU last Saturday.

Carter nabbed two interceptions, including one he returned 66 yards for a score. He also had five tackles and a sack.

The Texas native has recorded 14 tackles in four games this season.

TCU (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) visits Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Gaylord Family OK Memorial Stadium in Norman. The broadcast can be watched on FOX.

Arizona State safety Alden Darby, Houston cornerback William Jackson and Tulane cornerback Jordan Batiste were recognized as honorable mention players for the honor.

The Jim Thorpe Award is presented to the nation’s best defensive back by the Jim Thorpe Association. Jim Thorpe was a former first-team Walter Camp All-America selection in 1911 and 1912.

The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN will announce the award winner on Dec. 12.
