Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski says he works on his ‘street cred’

While Duke’s head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski doesn’t really need to do much talking to get his players to listen, given his success on court, he knows he still has to relate to his team.

And for a coach who’s pushing 70 years of age, staying in touch with his youthful players isn’t the easiest thing to do. So how does Coach K keep the line from blurring? By working on his street cred, of course.

Per the Charlotte Observer:

“You have to stay up with them because you get your street cred. In my world, I have to work on street cred because I’m an older guy, and when they come they might think I’m a statue in front of Cameron. ‘Yeah, he’s the guy that they publicize, but does he really coach?’ Somehow you have to be human with them.”

I’m not sure Mike Krzyzewski and street credibility were words that I’d ever hear mentioned together, but whatever works.

Hopefully Coach K works on his street cred a bit more if he ever intends on talking to Beyonce again though.
