According to a press release Thursday, the Maxwell Football Club named Aaron Murray, senior quarterback on the Georgia football team, its Maxwell Award Player of the Week for his performance in the Bulldogs’ 44-41 win against visiting LSU last Saturday.
Murray was 20 of 34 for 298 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.
“I thought Aaron played good during the game,” Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said Tuesday. “When the game was over, I thought he had played good. Then I watched the film, and I thought he played great.”
The Florida native has completed 79 of 116 passing attempts for 1,338 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions through four games this season.
This is the second time Murray has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week this season.
The Georgia football team (3-1, 2-0 SEC) visits Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. CBS will broadcast the tilt.
The Maxwell Award is presented to the college player of the year by the Maxwell Football Club. The award is named for Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, a former player in the early 1900s who became a sportswriter.
The award winner will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN on Dec. 12.
Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o won the award in 2012.
