Pitt Panthers lineman Aaron Donald earns Bednarik Award honor

According to a press release Thursday, the Maxwell Football Club named Aaron Donald, defensive tackle on the Pitt football team, its Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week for his performance in the Panther’s 14-3 win against visiting Virginia last Saturday.

Donald recorded three solo tackles, two sacks, two quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble against the Cavaliers.

The Pittsburgh native is now the seventh all-time sack artist in Panthers History, as he has 24.5 sacks for his career.

Pitt (3-1, 2-1 ACC) visits Virginia Tech at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. ESPNU is tabbed to televise the tilt.

The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented to the college defensive player of the year by the Maxwell Football Club.

The organization will announce the winner on the Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN on Dec. 12.

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o won the award in 2012.
