South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw to start vs. Kentucky on Saturday

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw will start for the Gamecocks against Kentucky on Saturday, the school announced Wednesday.

Shaw, who splits reps with backup Dylan Thompson during games, injured his shoulder during the first quarter of South Carolina’s 28-25 win at UCF last Saturday.

“Looks like Connor is going to be fine,” South Carolina Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said after practice Wednesday. “He was throwing the ball very well today. It looks like he will be the starter and Dylan will probably go in about the third or fourth possession. They both deserve to play, we think.”

The Georgia native has completed 49 of 76 passing attempts for 665 yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions in four games this season.

South Carolina (3-1, 1-1 SEC) hosts Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The game can be watched on Fox Sports Network and ESPN3.
