At one time, Josh Cribbs was the special teams hero for the Cleveland Browns, but the team let him walk this offseason and second-year wide receiver/return specialist Travis Benjamin was a big reason why the team felt comfortable making the move.
On Thursday night when the team’s offense was struggling to produce yards and points, giving Benjamin the return duties paid off in a big way.
You can’t teach speed and Benjamin was able to fly by the Bills punt coverage team for a 79-yard touchdown to give the Browns a 17-10 lead late in the first half. Benjamin ran by everyone in sight and showed off his balance on way to the endzone.
The score was the latest in a 17-point run for the Browns and it was Benjamin’s second impressive punt return of the game. Benjamin’s return brought his return yardage for the night to 142 yards on just three returns. It is the second most return yards for a Browns player in franchise history. Eric Metcalf had 166 in 1993, which is a record very much in reach.
Benjamin has given the Browns some life as they look to continue their momentum and earn their third straight win.
