UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez used his foundation as a former Division I collegiate wrestler to storm on to the mixed martial arts scene, but now he has added another tool to his ground game that will make him more dangerous to future opponents.
On top of his dominant top control game, Velasquez has added some quality jiu jitsu that earned him his black belt.
Leandro Vieira, co-founder of Team CheckMat, awarded Velasquez his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt recently and shared a photo with Velasquez at the American Kickboxing Academy where he currently trains.
Velasquez is currently preparing for his trilogy fight against former champion Junior Dos Santos that will take place at UFC 166, on October 19, 2013, in Houston, Texas.
It will be interesting to see if Velasquez looks to showcase his jiu jitsu against Dos Santos, who is also a BJJ black belt, to earn the first submission victory of his career.
