CFL star Chris Williams signs with New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints continue to explore other options at the wide receiver spot, as they haven’t gotten much production their outside of Marques Colston.

In hopes of adding another playmaker for Drew Brees to throw to, the team has agreed to a deal with former Canadian Football League star receiver/kick returner Chris Williams.

Per ESPN:

Williams, 25, got NFL looks with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of New Mexico State in 2009. But it was in the CFL where he made his mark, scoring a team-record 17 touchdowns last year (11 receiving, five on punt returns and one on a missed field goal return) with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The six return touchdowns set a CFL record.

The dynamic 5-foot-8, 175-pounder was named the league’s top rookie in 2011 with 70 catches for 1,064 receiving yards and six touchdowns, plus another 333 return yards. Then last year Williams caught 83 passes for 1,298 yards and 11 touchdowns and led the CFL with 78 punt returns for 1,117 yards and five touchdowns.

It’s not clear yet if Williams will join the practice squad or the active roster.

waste of MONEY…nothing wrong with our current receivers we just need to CHOOSE who we are going to go with and stop bringing in extra talent when we haven’t fully taken advantage of the ones we have…NICK TOON, KENNY STILLS, ANDY TANNER…then we brought in Meachum again…? cmon…including our backs and TE’s we automatically have 5 elite veteran receivers Graham, Watson, Sproles, Thomas, Colston (6 if Moore gets healthy again) and these young guys easily proved themselves in the preseason and took advantage of opportunities (the few given) so far these first four games…Coach treats receivers like a sports car collector….its time to invest in something we actually NEED like Outside Linebacker or Defensive end upgrades to give rest to our starters and provide TRUE depth…or how bout an additional olineman because if one of our current starters goes down GOD help us…
