Portland Trailblazers first round pick to have surgery

The Portland Trailblazers preseason received a blow Saturday when Trailblazers first round draft pick C.J. McCollum fractured his foot during a scrimmage. The injury was originally called a sprain but the Portland twitter feed confirmed the change in diagnosis.

Mike Tokito from the Oregonian had the original report.

McCollum, the No. 10 pick in June’s draft, was running the baseline during a scrimmage and was bowled over by a teammate. The injury is being called a sprain, but coach Terry Stotts said he did not know how long McCollum would be out.

Portland also announced throught their Twitter feed that the length of his rehab was still uncertain.

This is a difficult blow to the Blazers. McCollum was being counted on to contribute valuable minutes with Damian Lillard and Mo Williams in rotation at the guard spot. Without McCollum, the depth at guard will be questionable at best.
