The Buffalo Bills used their franchise tag on safety Jairus Byrd. Byrd was hoping for a long-term contract and held out for part of training camp in hopes that he’d get a deal done. Instead, he signed his franchise tender on August 20th. Byrd has been lest than thrilled with his contract situation and that has led to some tension between him and the team.

Byrd also hasn’t played this season, some have speculated that Byrd is being overly cautious in his return from a foot injury because he has no guaranteed money beyond the 2013 season. Bills head coach Doug Marrone spoke out and said he was the reason Byrd hasn’t played, but there is clearly tension between the Bills and Byrd.

The Bills know he is a valuable asset and are ‘open to dealing him,’ according to Adam Schefter’s sources. They also told Schefter that talks are ‘ongoing.’
