Prior to Derrick Rose‘s preseason debut, the former MVP said that he was 100 percent healthy and would destroy anybody in his path, including his own Mother. He apparently wasn’t joking as Rose, who took the court for the first time in over a season looked every bit the talent he was prior to his ACL injury.
Not only did Rose look to be the same player he was pre-injury, he almost looked better, especially from a leaping standpoint.
Was it just a mirage? Not according to Rose, who said he has added five inches (!!!) to his vertical when compared to his leaping ability before surgery:
After his first game back from injury, Derrick Rose said that his vertical has increased from 37 inches pre-surgery to 42 inches.
Of course, five inches is quite a bit, so while Rose is likely elongating his ability, there’s no doubt Rose looked wonderful in his preseason debut. Hopefully for the Chicago native and Bulls fans, he’ll maintain his health throughout the season.
Certainly encouraging though to see him come out and look so good as many, especially coming off an absence as long as Rose, look relatively tentative.
