Clayton Kershaw could start Game 4 of NLDS if Los Angeles Dodgers face elimination

Tonight, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Atlanta Braves in a pivotal Game 3 with the winner taking a 2-1 series advantage. If that happens to be the Atlanta Braves, it’s possible Dodgers ace Clayton Kerhsaw will take the mound in Game 4 in an elimination scenario.

Kershaw is slated to start Game 5 if needed, though could potentially be bumped up according to manager Don Mattingly.

Per the Los Angeles Times:

Kershaw threw a bullpen session Saturday at Dodger Stadium, keeping open the possibility of him starting Monday in Game 4 of a National League division series against the Atlanta Braves if the Dodgers lose Game 3 on Sunday. Kershaw usually likes to throw a bullpen session three days before he starts, so he probably would have waited until Sunday if he were locked into Game 5.

Ricky Nolasco is currently slated to start Game 4, so if Kershaw does take the mound, the Game 5 starter would currently be unknown. Los Angeles could simply move Nolasco back a day or likely start Zack Grienke on what should be normal rest.
