But by reaching the semifinal of the China Open, he was able to take it away from Novak Djokovic, who was also in the tournament. They eventually won each of their semifinal matches to set up yet another head-to-head battle between the two in the finals.
Novak Djokovic knew he had lost the top seed in the rankings but he wasn’t going to let that stop him from winning the tournament by beating the man who took it away. Djokovic was determined to send a message to the Spaniard, and that’s exactly what he did.
Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to win the China Open, his fourth one in the past five years.
Acording to an article on ESPN, the Serb was happy to get his win against Nadal.

Nadal, like Adrian Peterson, running back of the Minnesota Vikings, has had a great bounce back in his career after suffering the knee injury that kept him off he courts for seven months.
Nadal, the reigning French Open and U.S. Open champion, has had a dominant year since returning in February from a seven-month layoff due to a left knee injury. He has won 10 titles and reached 12 finals overall, compiling an ATP Tour-best record of 65-3 on the season.
