San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner is attempting to legally drop the W in his last name so that he can be known as “Hitner,” and today his new persona made an appearance on Sunday Night Football against the Houston Texans.

Whitner is currently unable to legally change his name because of the government shutdown, but he didn’t want to wait any longer to introduce himself as “Hitner” so he did just that during the 49ers defensive player introductions.

Here is a video of Whitner making his introduction on Sunday Night Football, via Guyism:

The 49ers defense got off to a hot start with a pick-six of Matt Schaub early in the fourth quarter, which set an NFL record for Schaub for the most consecutive games in league history with an interception returned for a touchdown, and the offense was able to answer with a score of their own.

It is still early, but the San Francisco 49ers are rolling early and currently have a two touchdown lead over Houston.
