ALDS 2013: Oakland Athletics at Detroit Tigers Game 3 preview

Who: Oakland Athletics at Detroit Tigers

Where: Comerica Park, Detroit

When: 1:07 PM, ET – MLB Network

Series record: 1-1

Things couldn’t have aligned more perfectly for the Detroit Tigers after their Game 1 victory in Oakland.

Pressing the Athletics’ back against the wall would be ace Justin Verlander, who already gifted with a 1-0 series lead could have forced the A’s in three straight win-or-go home games. Matched with preventing that was young hurler Sonny Gray, who would be making his first ever postseason start.

As expected, Verlander was dominant. But so was Gray, who matched the former Cy Young award winner pitch for pitch.

Both offensives were shut down by their pitching counterparts, so it took a ninth inning rally from the Athletics to put up the lone and final run of the game en route to their 1-0 win.

Now both teams head to Motown where the Athletics will attempt to regain home field advantage and assure themselves at minimum of a Gave 5 in Oakland. Meanwhile, the Tigers, certainly not looking to return to California will do whatever they can to take Game 3, putting them a lone victory away from the American League Championship.

For Oakland, young Jarrett Parker will take the mound, opposed by American League ERA champion, Anibal Sanchez.
