When the Boston Red Sox acquired veteran starting pitcher Jake Peavy from the Chicago White Sox before the trade deadline, Peavy was excited to get back into the postseason.

Peavy is scheduled to pitch in game four of the Red Sox’s first round matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.

However, with the Red Sox up two games to none, game four may not be necessary.

“Every part of me wants to compete and get out there and have a chance to play (Tuesday) night,” Peavy told Sean McAdam of Comcast Sports New England. “I want that opportunity. But I do not want to play (Tuesday) night. I want to win (Game 3) as bad as anybody in this building. And that’s what I and 24 other guys and a bunch of coaches in that room expect to happen tonight.”

“Like I said, I hope it doesn’t happen. I don’t expect it to happen. I expect to be on a plane and be back in Boston tomorrow night by game time.”

Peavy is 12-5 with a 4.17 ERA this season.
