IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti was involved in a horrific crash over the weekend that resulted in a two broken vertebrae and a fractured ankle. Franchitti’s car went airborne and the debris that flew from his car ended up injuring 13 fans, along with an IndyCar Series official.

The good news is that most of the injured spectators were treated on scene and only two were forced to head to the hospital.

Along with Franchitti, fellow drivers E.J. Viso and Takuma Sato were caught up in the crash.

Following the crash, Franchitti’s teammate Scott Dixon, commented on the scary scene.

“The smells and the visuals, for me, and even talking to Will, you have the remnants of Vegas popping into your head with you coming around the corner and you can’t drive through it because there’s a field of debris,” Dixon said, via the Associated Press. “There was no near the amount of damage that we saw (in 2011), but seeing the replay was a big shock.”
