Dario Franchitti crash: Spectator captures close up video

IndyCar Series driver Dario Franchitti was in a horrific crash over the weekend that injured 13 spectators, an IndyCar Series official and left him with significant injuries of his own. The crash resulted in a two broken vertebrae and a fractured ankle for Franchitti.

While we have already posted the broadcast video of Franchittie’s crash, a shocking point of view video of the accident surfaced on the Internet Monday afternoon.

The video shows a spectator standing alongside plenty of other people in the grandstands, when Franchitti’s car comes speeding around the turn and flying up in to the barrier as his car shredded to pieces and sent debris flying in to the stands.

It is shocking to see just how close Franchitti’s ride came to flying in to the stands and the close proximity of the crash makes you grateful that nobody was seriously hurt.

Calling the video stunning would be an understatement. That is as close of a call as you can get.
