According to a press release Monday, Jameis Winston, quarterback on the Florida State football team, was named the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week for his performance in the Seminoles’ 63-0 win against Maryland on Saturday.
Winston was 23 of 32 for a season-high 393 yards and five touchdowns, and he helped Florida State gain 614 yards in total offense.
“He does as good a job of getting out of pressure and finding guys down the field as he’s eluding,” Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said over the weekend. “He can transfer from his eyes to what he sees and get the ball out.”
The Bessemer, Ala. Native has completed 90 of 123 attempts for 1,441 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions in five games this season.
The conference also named Clemson’s Tajh Boyd, Fresno State’s Derek Carr, Missouri’s James Franklin, SMU’s Garrett Gilbert, Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, LSU’s Zach Mettenberger, Georgia’s Aaron Murray, Baylor’s Bryce Petty, and Washington’s Keith Price as honorable mentions for the award in Week 6.
No. 6 Florida State (5-0, 3-0 ACC) visits No. 3 Clemson at 8 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised on ABC.
