I like Monta Ellis, I do. The thing I don’t like about Monta Ellis is the fact that he’s a bit delusional. He once said, “Monta Ellis have it all,” and he shoots. A lot. He can shoot teams out of games, and he isn’t efficient. You could say that he doesn’t play winning basketball. Well, according to the Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban, Ellis will change–via the Star-Telegram:
“I think he wants to be a compliment to Dirk as opposed to being the guy,’’ owner Mark Cuban said after Sunday’s practice at American Airlines Center. “He’s a good passer, a willing passer and he gets where he wants to on the court.
“He’s committed to playing defense, he’s a willing learner and he’s a got a high basketball IQ.’’
Cuban believes Ellis — he signed a free agent contract with the Mavs this past summer — will benefit handsomely from many of the one-on-one teachings coach Rick Carlisle doles out to his players.
Monta can pass, and he is good at it, but his assists aren’t necessarily always helping. Believe it or not, there are different types of assists. Either way, Ellis will have to prove that he has truly changed, but as of now he has said he’s going to play Monta-Ball–whatever that is.
