According to Yahoo! Sports, the relationship between Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau and general manager Gar Forman is something of note. The relationship truly went off the deep end when Forman decided to relieve head assistant Ron Adams of his duties despite Thibodeau’s wishes.
With Derek Rose returning to action this season, his teammates will be all that much more important to make a deep playoff run. Veteran forward Luol Deng is quietly disappointed in the lack of serious contract extension talks between him and the Bulls’ front office. Thibs has also made it known that he will not be happy if Deng leaves in free agency this summer. With Thibs’ reputation as a defensive mastermind, it is no surprise that he wants Deng, one of the game’s best perimeter defenders, playing on his side.
Thibodeau has established himself as one of the league’s top coaches, particularly after taking the Rose-less Bulls to the Conference Semifinals before falling to the Miami Heat in five games.
While the firing of Adams is just the tipping point, the distance between the two parties has always been there. “It is a toxic relationship that I believe will ultimately derail them”, one NBA coaching source close to both Thibs and Forman told Yahoo!.
Clearly, there is some distrust in Chicago. Perhaps, Derek Rose’s healthy knee can help soothe some of the pain for everyone involved.
