Tony Dungy turned down USC head football coaching job

After firing Lane Kiffin, the University of Southern California is on the search for a new head football coach.

They thought they might have their man in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, but they apparently thought wrong as the current NFL analyst on NBC turned down their advances.

Per Paul Pabst:

Tony Dungy told us that USC reps contacted him about the head coaching job this week. He said no. @dpshow

Dungy hasn’t made any suggestions that he’s tired of ‘retirement’ so leaving his cushy gig at NBC for USC probably didn’t seem like the most favorable decision.

USC Athletic Director Pat Haden has been a man on a mission in searching for a Kiffin replacement and Dungy was one of the first names on the short list, which seemingly grows by the day.

Former NFL coaches like Jack Del Rio and Jeff Fisher remain as potential targets, though, we have yet to hear if the interest on their part is mutual.
