It’s only been one preseason game and Dallas Mavericks center Samuel Dalembert has already drawn the ire of head coach Rick Carlisle who called out his conditioning in front of the team recently.

“I just told him in front of the whole team that he’s got to keep working,” said Carlisle, who mentioned Dalembert’s conditioning issues to the media without a question being asked about the center. “We need his minutes. They’re going to be very important to us. He’s a factor. When he’s in shape, he’s a factor as a rim protector and rebounder, and he gives you a big, active, athletic body in there.”

Dalembert’s talent hasn’t ever been in question, though his effort can at times get a bit, sporadic, to say the least.

The Haitian big man has garnered a small reputation for being a bit of a contract year player, so hopefully with coach Carlisle barking at Sammy D, it’s a reputation he’ll be able to shed in Big D after he snagged a lucrative deal with the Mavericks this past offseason.
