Currently ranked seventh in the race to qualify for the World Tour Finals, tennis star Roger Federer is in danger of missing the cut for the event for the first time since 2001. Federer has won the event six times in his illustrious career, but a lackluster 2013 has him right on the verge of being dropped from contention with only three tournaments remaining.
Despite the recent struggles, Rafael Nadal, one of Federer’s biggest rivals, is confident the Swiss player will make it to World Tour Finals. Nadal talked about his belief in Federer to reporters in Shanghai:
He’s going to go, he’s going to qualify. I am sure of that. He is not going to have a problem. Even if he doesn’t have lots of points of advantage, I feel he always played well in this last part of the season.
He likes to play in these tournaments. He always had the positive results. I really feel that he will do it. He’s a great player and I am sure he will be there and fighting for the title (Reuters).
Only 105 points separate Federer from the ninth-placed Richard Gasquet, and only the top eight players qualify for the season-ending tournament.
