Former Texas Longhorns stand out and NFL running back Ricky Williams use of marijuana has been documented well. It was even the subject of a 30 for 30 documentary on ESPN called “Run Ricky Run.” All in all, many people believe that Williams’ marijuana use held him back.

Williams disagrees with that notion, in fact he believes just the opposite.

“I don’t agree that it was an Achilles heel, I kind of think of it was more like spinach for Popeye,” Williams said in an interview with Campus Insiders, via Yahoo! Sports.

It is hard to argue with him. He rushed for 1,853 yards in 2002 for the Miami Dolphins. He then tested positive for marijuana in December of 2003, a year he rushed for 1,372 yards. That was his second positive test, the first one came shortly after he joined the Dolphins.

He won the Heisman Trophy in college and was the number one overall draft pick in the NFL. Ricky Williams played for 3 NFL teams in his career and rushed for 10,009 yards on 2,431 carries. He also scored 66 touchdowns over the course of his career.

It seems kinda funny to me that people who smoke believe it makes them better at many things and others believe it holds them back. You would think the person that actually has the skills and has been through performing high and sober would know a little more about it. It just sounds like conservative people trying to promote Marijuana prohibition.
