In Thursday’s 31-30 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones, Texas Longhorns’ wide receiver Mike Davis executed a dirty cut block on Cyclones’ defensive back Dan Broomfield. The block came after Longhorns running back Joe Bergeron scored a touchdown, giving the Longhorns the lead, making it even more unnecessary.

Davis was reprimanded by the Big 12 and his head coach, Mack Brown, agreed.

Davis, a senior our of Dallas, Texas, has 26 receptions for 287 yards and four touchdowns this season.

“It was crazy. I think people blew it out of proportion and took it too far,” Davis told Max Olson of ESPN.com. “It really wasn’t that bad. It just looked bad.”

Davis even went as far as to say he’d make a similar block if the situation came up again.

“If we have another run/pass situation like that, I’ll do the same thing,” Davis said. “I mean, if the DB’s loafing, he deserves to get cut.”

Davis did, however, specify that his next block would be clean.

The Longhorns will take on the unbeaten Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Shootout Saturday at noon EST.
