UNC Wilmington is like many basketball programs across the nation. They hold a midnight madness to celebrate the return of the college basketball season. Unlike other programs, though, their version of the dunk contest was actually entertaining.

(This is a few days old, but H/T Cody Williams of LTSB for the heads up)

Outside the slew of awesome dunks, there is one in particular worth noting.  Gary Miller, UNCW Chancellor, decided to partake in the festivities. As you can tell from watching the video, it is not as if Miller decided to throw down some dunks of his own. What he did do, however, was put his life in the hands of a student-athlete.

I don’t know a ton about Gary Miller, but since the player cleared him while attempting to dunk I can only assume he has a good relationship with all the students on campus. Well, maybe he might just have a close bond with the player who jumped over him, Luke Hager.

Regardless, most other dunk contests at other schools’ opening events are not as good as this one. No word on whether this projects the team to make any magical runs during the season, though.
