Jets Antwan Barnes will miss season

It looks like the surprising 3-2 New York Jets are going to be on the lookout for a pass rusher once again.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Jets have placed outside linebacker Antwan Barnes on injured reserve with a knee injury and will miss the rest of the season. The Jets have signed linebacker Ricky Sapp to take his spot on the roster.

Barnes, a situational pass rusher, had two sacks this season while spelling starters Quinton Coples and Calvin Pace.

After being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth-round in 2007, Barnes made a name for himself as a pass rush specialist with the San Diego Chargers, where the 6-1, 251-pound linebacker had 18.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in three seasons. However, inconsistent tackling in run support has prevented him from being a full-time starter throughout his career.

Earlier this season, Barnes made headlines not for his play, but for calling out Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams, as well as the Carolina Panthers’ offensive line.

Per Pro Football Talk:

"It’s the Panthers we’re talking about. Obviously, he’s [Williams] a first-round pick, they pay him so much money, so he’s got to go out there and do something. For our O-linemen, it’s the same. They go against us every day. They won’t be scared or intimidated by it."

This was Barnes’ first season with the Jets.
