New York Mets scouts were 'impressed' with Cuban prospect Jose Abreu

It’s no secret that the New York Mets are going to be searching for a player who can provide both defense and power in their lineup.

Before the season ended, Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder Shin-Soo Choo was already getting some interest from this organization as a possible free agent target. With multiple teams in the hunt for this young Cuban prospect, the Mets could become a favorite to sign the  26 year old first baseman.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, New York Mets scouts were very impressed with the first base prospect.

With teams like the Marlins, Giants, Rangers, Red Sox, Nationals, Pirates and White Sox also showing interest, New York is going to have to step up a contract offer, if they do in fact plan to offer him one.

Right now the New York Mets aren’t sure if Lucas Duda and Ike Davis are reliable options at first base. Duda has already opted to not play Winter Ball as he didn’t do much for the team late in the season, so his future with this organization could be up in the air right now.
