Last week, it appeared as though the North Carolina State Wolfpack were close to getting starting quarterback Brandon Mitchell back.
Instead, Mitchell, who broke his foot in the Wolfpack’s season opener, missed his fourth straight game. Junior Pete Thomas again filled in for Mitchell and again struggled mightily. Thomas was 27-of-43 for 257 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions as the Wolfpack fell 28-13 to the lowly Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
On the season, Thomas has completed 100 of 157 passes for 1,163 yards with just two touchdowns and seven interceptions. During Thomas’ run, the Wolfpack have struggled to a 3-2 record, so it’s easy to see why they are desperate to get Mitchell back.
As of right now, whether or not Mtichell will play is completely up in the air, according to Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren, who will make the final decision.
“(Coach) doesn’t want to put me in a position where I have a setback,” Mitchell told Joe Giglio of the News Observer. “If I’m still feeling good, without having any soreness or pain, then I’ll play on Saturday.”
Before being injured, Mitchell was 3-of-3 for 93 yards.
The Wolfpack will host the Syracuse Orange Saturday at 3:30 pm EST.
