2013 LPGA Golf: Americans Dot the Leaderboard in Malaysia

LPGA star, Brittany Lang leads a host of American players who are on the leaderboard after the first round of the SIME Darby LPGA Malayasia  being played at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Malaysia. Lang got in the clubhouse on Thursday at six under par, and trails tournament leader South Korean  Ilhee Lee by one stroke. Fellow American Paula Creamer is two shots back at five under par. Lexi Thompson, Alison Walshe, Christie Kerr, and Brittany Lincicome are all three back.

The 28 year-old from Texas started her day on the back nine, and got her score to seven under par before she put a bogey on the card at number nine. The bogey at her final hole was her only one of the day, and cost her a share of the overnight lead.

Brittany got hot early, putting up four birdies in a row starting at number ten. she made two more at 15 and 16 to make the turn at 30. She added one more birdie at the first hole, and cooled some trying to get to the clubhouse.

"“I did a really good job,” said Lang. “I’ve been swinging at it good but haven’t made too many putts lately. So just trying to commit to my lines today, and really got off to a hot start. I felt really comfortable out there.”“I had a great putt there and thought it was in,” said Lang. “I played great. It was a fun day. Just didn’t make too many mistakes, hit the ball fantastic, had a lot of tap in birdies. It was just a very easy day. I think maybe a little bit more Gatorade out there because it gets pretty hot towards the end. I didn’t finish off as strong as I’d like to. So get some rest and just make sure I’m eating and drinking enough out there.”"

Inbee Park made a Sunday charge here last year to beat Na Yeon Choi by two strokes. Park was two shots down at the turn, and made four birdies coming down the stretch to win at the 6246 yard par 71 course in Malaysia.

The number one Rolex Ranked player, got off to a slow start Thursday, and is six shots back at one under par. The three-time 2013 major champion from South Korea typically gets off to a slow start, and by the weekend is in the mix.
