What Bristol Motor Speedway may look like hosting Virginia Tech – Tennessee football game (Photo)

Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that the Tennessee Volunteers and Virginia Tech Hokies will be playing a college football game at Brisol Motor Speedway in 2016 which is expected to draw around 160,000 fans (which is capacity at the speedway).

Despite the announcement, few details were given. We were given the year. We were given the teams. We were given the locale, but outside of those three things, much was left to the imagination. For example, where exactly will the field be placed? The most obvious (and essentially only place) will be in the middle of the race track, but that area is currently occupied by a medical center, garage space and more. Clearly, some modifications will need to be made.

Modifications or not, the Virginia Tech – Tennessee game won’t be the first time football has been played at the venue as back in 1961, the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins played a game on the infield though there were fewer structures in their way at that time.
