The NHL might not take to breast cancer awareness month like the NFL does, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t players like Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings that are willing to do their part.
For Detroit’s contest against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Howard is set to wear a spectacular pink goalie mask. Here are a few peeks at the helmet.

Howard isn’t stopping at the helmet though. According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, he’ll also sport a pink blocker and glove. While it isn’t likely that he’ll have enough time to break in pads (that takes a long while and a ton of effort), we’re curious to see what the outcome will be if Howard shines in his start against the Flyers.
Hockey players—goalies in particular—are typically a very superstitious bunch. What happens if Howard shuts out the Flyers while making 44 saves in the process? Is there any chance that we see the pink equipment for more than Saturday’s game? It’s a stretch, but it’s fun to imagine Howard chucking his pink blocker and glove into the air after leading the Red Wings to a Stanley Cup.
