Remember when Renaldo Balkman was the second coming as a member of the New York Knicks? Me either, but for a moment (and it was quick) Balkman was thought to have a significant future role with the Knicks organization.

It didn’t work out as Balkman was one of the pieces moved to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Carmelo Anthony, which was followed by another short reunion with the Knicks a few years later. But poor play eventually cost Balkman his job where he famously choked a teammate in the Philippines.

Balkman was recently signed to a non-guaranteed contract by the Dallas Mavericks where he’s been trying to gain a roster spot.

It likely won’t happen considering the Mavericks are already near the maximum roster limit, but that doesn’t mean head coach Rick Carlisle isn’t a big fan of Balkman, especially his eyelid tattoos.

Per the Dallas Morning News:

"Asked for his first thoughts on the dreadlocked, multi-tattooed former first-round draft pick of the New York Knicks, coach Rick Carlisle said: “My first thoughts? I like his hairdo. And I like his tattoos a lot. There’s a lot of storytelling going on there.“You know he’s got a high pain tolerance if he’s got tattoos on his eyelids. All that stuff impresses me before we even start talking about his game. That’s why I liked [DeShawn] Stevenson.”"
