The award is given to the player with the most outstanding defensive performance of the week, and the versatile Purifoy was exactly that against the Hogs.
Already on the top of many NFL team’s draft boards as the best defensive back in the land, he proved why by recording four tackles, breaking up three passes, picking off one pass and then sacking Arkansas QB Brandon Allen which subsequently resulted in a fumble. It was one of the more dominant defensive performances that we’ve seen by one player all year.
This week, Purifoy will face a much stiffer test as the Gators are set to take on the LSU Tigers and their dynamic receiving tandem of Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. It’ll be yet another chance to Purifoy to show actually why he’s so highly regarded among executives at the next level by trying to stop a portion of that nearly unstoppable duo.
