As a scout for professional baseball, you see a lot of things – a lot of strange things. Most times they’re not on the field, though, the video that former Major League pitcher Mark Mulder recently posted on Instagram might take the cake.
Mulder, who despite an early retirement won 103 games in seven years split between the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals (he actually played nine years, but two years were wasted by injury) was given a video from former teammate Bobby Crosby that is quite possibly the best thing I’ve seen all day.
Crosby, who last played professionally in 2010 (he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2013, though was released after Spring Training) was sent the video by his brother, Blake, who is a Major League scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Out watching a game in California, Blake came across an umpire who, well, enjoyed punching batters out a bit too much:
Yes, you heard right, he just busted out a ‘Whoomp There It Is’ reference.
Only thing that could have improved this was some form of a post-strikeout dance. Maybe a little MC Hammer?
