There were some conflicting reports on Friday morning regarding the condition of Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson’s two-year-old son, but it looks like the child who landed in critical condition after a severe beating is in fact one of the Vikings running back’s sons.

Peterson’s father, Nelson, confirmed to the Pioneer Press during a brief telephone interview that the child fighting for his life is not Adrian Jr., but one of his grandsons.

“All I can say is, we are asking for prayers and for respect for our family as we deal with this tragic situation,” Nelson Peterson said.

He would not comment on the situation any further.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also passed along the report:

We continue to send our best wishes out to Peterson and his family as they deal with this horrendous situation.
