This is a UEFA Group B World Cup qualifying match between Denmark and Italy. Italy pretty much has the first seed in this group, and the automatic bid for the World Cup, locked up.

This group is basically a race for second, and that team will take part in a playoff for a berth in November. Presently, Bulgaria is holding onto that number 2 spot. Denmark is one point behind Bulgaria, and a win and a Bulgaria loss could move them ahead in the table.

Beating Italy won’t be easy, but they might not give this game 100% of their effort with their bid locked up already. That doesn’t seem to be Italy’s plans though.

“I’m only thinking about the three points on Friday,” Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said, via ESPN FC. “We have achieved something marvellous in recent years and we want to finish our qualifying campaign unbeaten. A win would also count in view of the FIFA rankings.”
