Gamecocks’ DC: Jadeveon will play if healthy

According to an article on ESPN,

Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said Thursday that the injured Clowney will start if healthy Saturday when No. 14 South Carolina (4-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) takes on the Razorbacks (3-3, 0-2).

This is good news for those who want to see “The Beast”  in action again, as he will likely be suited up and playing for most of the season. However, as we’ve heard all along, by playing, he risks his draft stock falling.

Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said Thursday that the injured Clowney will start if healthy Saturday when No. 14 South Carolina (4-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) takes on the Razorbacks (3-3, 0-2).

It’s tough to tell a kid who’s potentially going number one overall in the draft next year “We want you to play if you’re healthy, instead of saving you for the pros.” But it’s something that ha to happen, not for Clowney, but for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

If you’re like me, then you’re hoping this decision to play Clowney doesn’t turn into something like Marcus Lattimore, where a potential top overall draft pick goes down with an injury and drops a few rounds. Clowney knows exactly what could happen if he chooses to play all the time, every game, but he is looking past that and is dedicated to the success of the team.

“Am I fully committed? Always,” Clowney said. “I could’ve sat out. I’m not looking to sit out. I’m not that type of guy. I’m here for the team.”
