Kris Letang injury update
The Pittsburgh Penguins are likely to be without top defender Kris Letang when they take on the Florida Panthers on Friday night. The good news for Letang and the Penguins, as per Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is that he’s skating pretty hard right now:
…Letang skated hard Thursday at Southpointe. He made cuts. Stopped hard and started quickly. Did drills with lateral movement.
But that was before the team’s practice, and he did not return for that.
That means it’s unlikely that Letang, who is believed to have a knee injury, will play tonight at Florida. Coach Dan Bylsma has said Letang needed to work his way back to practice before he would return to the lineup.
While it would be nice to have Letang back in the lineup, there’s no reason for the Penguins to rush him at this juncture. They are 3-0 to start the season, have only given up three goals against and are taking on the Panthers this evening. Florida will have to start winning a few games at some point, but it’s unlikely that Pittsburgh will struggle with the Cats, given how both teams are playing.
In Letang’s abscence, Olli Maatta has been able to show the Pens what he can do. He’s played very well, and the Pens will have a few tough roster decisions to make once Letang is healthy enough to return to action.
