Mr. Moneyball Billy Beane, the Oakland Athletics general manager sat down with some reporters today and announced some rosters moves that will be made early on.

According to Susan Slusser on Twitter, the topics of discussion during today’s talk with Billy Beane were Bartolo Colon, Brett Anderson and Coco Crisp.

Both Brett Anderson and Coco Crisp have team options for the 2014 season. Now what Slusser is saying on Twitter, is that Beane is looking to pick up both options for each player.

Veteran outfielder Coco Crisp has an option that carries $7.5 million into the 2014 season. Crisp was able to record a 20/20 season and hit .389/.455/.611 in the post season. During the regular season the 34 year old outfielder hit .261/.335/.444 through 131 games played.

The 22 home runs Crisp hit are a career high.

Anderson’s option will give him $8 million for the 2014 season as he posted a 6.04 ERA over a season where he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Anderson’s first year in the Majors (2009), he was able to make 30 starts. Since his rookie season, he hasn’t started 20 games and only started in six in 2012.

Finally a big decision that Beane will have to make before or during the Winter Meetings. Starting pitcher Bartolo Colon is set to become a free agent and has expressed interest in re-signing with the Oakland Athletics.

This is a Bartolo Colon that we haven’t seen in awhile. It was his best season yet since his 2005 season with the Los Angeles Angels where he won 21 games. Colon finished the year 18-6 and pitched 190 1/3 innings while posting his lowest ERA (2.65) in almost 10 years.

I expect Colon to get re-signed by this organization, but I’m not sure if he would be able to pick up a multi-year deal. The man is 40 years old, so he has at least two solid seasons left in him.
