After quiet start to 2013, Nelson Agholor comes up big for USC Trojans

Sophomore wide receiver Nelson Agholor didn’t light up the box scores for the first few games of the 2013 season. Through five games for the Trojans, Agholor had a mere 11 catches for 192 yards, numbers far below what he needed to put up given the absence of star receiver Marqise Lee. But Agholor exploded in USC’s 38-31 win over the Arizona Wildcats on Thursday night, snagging seven receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown.

Nelson began the contest by hauling in a 62-yard bomb from Cody Kessler. The quarterback praised Agholor after the game:

Nelson is a great player. I love the kid — I live with him — and we have that uniqueness where we know each other are going to be on the same page. From going in the summer and throwing together, I have all the faith in the world in him. He came out and performed so well tonight (Arizona Daily Star).

Thursday night’s win was a huge one for the USC Trojans and interim head coach Ed Orgeron. The Trojans are now 4-2 on the year and have a bit of momentum going into their game against Notre Dame next week.
