If you aren’t familiar with linebacker Addison Gillam, a true freshman for the Colorado Buffaloes, it’s about time you learn his name. In a conference loaded with defensive stars like Shayne Skov of Stanford and Anthony Barr of UCLA, Gillam is actually putting up some of the best stats, having recorded an astounding 49 tackles in only four games.
Gillam, who only received one FBS scholarship offer coming out of high school, spoke with The Daily Camera about his success:
I just keep thinking to myself, ‘Don’t let it get to your head.’ It can be over at any moment. So I just got to keep playing through every game and not look ahead. Just keep playing as hard as I can.
The Buffaloes will certainly need Gillam to have a big game when they take on Arizona State this weekend. The Sun Devils are coming off a huge win against USC and average 489.4 yards per game. If Gillam can replicate the performance he had against Oregon — an 18-tackle game in which he set the school record for freshman — expect to start hearing his name a lot more often.
