The rumor from earlier in the week has been confirmed: The Wisconsin Badgers will open the 2016 football season by playing the LSU Tigers at Lambeau Field. You’ll probably want to get on those tickets now because I’m sure they’ll go fast.
The game will be the first time the Badgers have played on Green Bay’s legendary field, and the contest will net Wisconsin a $3 million payday from the Packers. Barry Alvarez, Wisconsin’s athletic director, talked about the exciting opportunity in a statement released Friday:
I’m very excited about this game and I hope our fans are, too. It is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our program, a great experience for our players to play in one of the most revered stadiums in the country and a terrific chance for our fans to see us play a quality opponent in the state of Wisconsin (ESPN).
The game won’t be the first time Wisconsin and LSU meet at an NFL stadium, though. The two schools are scheduled to open the 2014 season at Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans.
