The Ottawa Senators lost in overtime to the Los Angeles Kings without their No. 1 center in Jason Spezza. It doesn’t appear that they’ll be charged with bouncing back without him when they play the San Jose Sharks tonight. The Ottawa Sun reported that Spezza is likely to suit up after taking a game off to rest a sore groin. As per the Sun report:
All signs point to his return to the Senators lineup Saturday night against the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center, but he and coach Paul MacLean were both being cautious in giving a final thumbs up after a 45-minute skate.
After sitting Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings to give his sore groin a rest, the Senators captain didn’t want to be presumptuous and declare he was ready to play.
Spezza would obviously be a massive boost for the Sens as they try to become the first team to beat San Jose this season. The Sharks have the most explosive offense in the NHL at this point, and Ottawa will need all the firepower it can get for this contest.
If he plays he’ll likely line up with Bobby Ryan and Milan Michalek—two players that Sharks fans should be more than familiar with, as Ryan was a longtime Anaheim Duck and Michalek played for San Jose for five seasons before getting traded to Ottawa.
