New York Islanders’ John Tavares pulls out own tooth (Video)

Let’s be honest – there aren’t very many of use that enjoy our trips to the dentist. That’s not to say we don’t go through with them, but it’s not exactly what I’d call a relaxing experience.

Maybe that’s how New York Islanders captain John Tavares feels too because during his game last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, he decided he’d skip a trip to the dentist by extracting his own tooth on the bench.

See, as Tavares was on the boards with a Chicago defender, the puck, which they were fighting for caught air and plunked Tavares right in the grill. The Islanders captain shot back when the puck hit him, clearly in pain, but being the true tested hockey veteran that he is he simply skated over to the bench, took a seat and with a firm grip yanked that chunk of bone right out.

Even more impressive? No stitches. No medication. Just a water bottle and his hockey stick and Tavares was back on the ice come the next line shift.
