Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee: "Nick Marshall is our starter"

Saturday, the Auburn Tigers were able to easily handle their opponent in Western Carolina, 62-3, and they were able to do so by giving true freshman Jeremy Johnson the nod at quarterback. The youngster played more than admirably, going 17-of-21 for 201 yards and four touchdowns. While not against SEC competition, it’s still not a bad showing for someone just a few months removed from high school.

Now, the reason that head coach Guz Malzahn and the coaching staff had to burn the redshirt of their prized recruit was due to a knee injury suffered by starting quarterback, Nick Marshall, which he wasn’t able to recover from in time.

Still though, there were a few Tiger fans that have been clamoring to see Johnson on the field ever since the battle for the position back in August, which lasted up until about a week before the season began.

If there were any of those fans that might have had some hope that Johnson may have started some sort of controversy on the Plains, pump the brakes just a little bit, as offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has reiterated that that’s not the case:

But, fear not completely. Even though Johnson will not be the starter, since the redshirt has already been burned, Lashlee also made it a point to note that he will have a role in the offense going forward:
