While he doesn’t have an eyesore of a billboard devoted to him in New York City, Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota is starting to get some serious Heisman consideration following his impressive performance in Saturday’s 45-24 win over the Washington Huskies. Mariota threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns, and he added 88 rushing yards and another touchdown the ground.
Here’s what Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian had to say after the game:
We just unfortunately had a hard time containing Marcus Mariota. He threw the ball extremely well and when we covered him, he ran. We tried to catch him. We tried to spot him. We tried to blitz him. We tried to contain him.
I don’t have a Heisman vote, but I’d be hard-pressed to say we’ll see a better quarterback this year. That guy is special. I don’t know when he is planning on going to the NFL, but when he does I think he’ll be a top five draft pick (USA Today Sports).
For those living under a rock, Mariota is having an incredible 2013 season. He’s already thrown for 1,724 yards and 17 touchdowns, and he’s yet to throw an interception. He’s also shredding teams with his legs, having run for eight touchdowns and averaging a ridiculous 10.39 yards per rush. Expect to see him put up huge numbers again next week when the Ducks take on the Washington State Cougars.
