The Arizona Cardinals lost to the San Francisco 49ers. It was a close game and the Cardinals were down by just two points at the start of the fourth quarter, before eventually losing 32-20.
It could be considered a moral victory but some, but head coach Bruce Arians doesn’t see it that way. His rookie Tyrann Mathieu must be rubbing off on him because he channeled his inner ‘Honey Badger‘ when talking about the close game.
“No. We only play to win. I don’t give a damn about playing close,” Arians said via NFL.com. “We’re here to win, we had the game in our hand. That’s what we take from it. If we quit beating ourselves, we can beat anybody.”
I don’t know that I disagree with Arians. A 12 point loss isn’t a close game. The Patriots-Saints game was close, the Broncos-Cowboys game was close.
Not to mention the meltdown on the Cardinals part in the fourth quarter. Arians had an explanation for that and a way to fix it.
“You can’t run out of gas,” he said. “There’s no such thing as running out of gas. You just kick somebody’s ass, and you’ll be all right, and you’ll get off the field.”
