It’s difficult to think of a team that’s been more decimated by injuries than the Florida Gators. Having already lost Jeff Driskel, Dominique Easley, Chaz Green, Andre Debose, Matt Rolin, and Nick Washington to season-ending injuries, news out of Gainesville today revealed that running back Matt Jones will also be out for the rest of the year.
Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp talked about the spree of devastating injuries, saying that while the team has a “next man up” mentality, it is undeniably frustrating to have so many hard-working players go down:
We’ll get the next guy up. We’ve recruited well at the position, so those guys will get their opportunities and they need to be ready in all situations.
More than anything, I hate it for the young men. They put a lot of time and effort into playing in this game, and for that to happen, I’m disappointed for them first of all. That’s what hurts the most, to see guys go through the struggle and having to make that phone call and tell them what’s going on or having to walk them in the training room to tell them what’s happening (ESPN).
Unfortunately for the Gators, their schedule doesn’t get any easier from here on out. Florida plays the red-hot Missouri Tigers next week and still has Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida State left to play.
